Tips For Troubleshooting Your Water Softening System

Posted on

If you have discovered that your water softening system is not working as it should, you might want to try to troubleshoot the problem before calling in a repair technician. After all, it might be a simple fix that you can tend to on your own. To help you do this, you will want to check out the following troubleshooting tips.

Replace The Filter

You will want to replace your disposable deionization filter if it appears to be a little clogged. If you have a filter that is not disposable, you will simply want to give it a good cleaning. Even if this does not solve the immediate problem at hand, it will at least reduce the chances of further problems, as clean filters are essential to the functioning of the water softening system.

Look For Chunks Of Salt

If salt clumps together in the water softener tank, you will want to make sure that you are breaking it apart so that it can be properly used by the system. To do this, you will want to take a broom handle and push down into the tank. Gently break apart the clumps of salt until you are able to feel around with the broom handle and no longer notice any more lumps. This might be something that you will want to periodically check for so that it never causes you a problem again in the future.

Check Your Main Electrical Box

If the water softening system does not seem to be powering up at all, it might not be the system itself. It could be that the breaker that it is tied to is flipped into the off position. This will happen when a breaker becomes overloaded with the need for power. It acts as a safety precaution. An occasional flipped breaker is nothing to worry about. Simply flip it back on. However, if this is starting to happen a lot more recently, you might have a problem with the water softening system, which is causing it to work the breakers much harder than normal. Such issues will need to be checked out by a professional.

As you can see, there are some things that you will be able to do on your own when trying to figure out why your water softening system may not be working properly. If you are still unable to get the system in proper working order after all of this, it might be time to call in an expert.
